To visit the Tribes of the Omo Valley is not easy, 3 flights, long drive and in some instances an armed guard is needed. This woman belongs to the Hamer tribe, a tribe that is known for using red clay and animal fat to decorate their hair, representing beauty and fertility. Another tradition is a bull jumping ceremony - to enter manhood a boy must jump over live bulls (you can see the full video on my YouTube). I love this photo, I wanted to emphasise the detail of the hair but also give context to the Hamer tribes environment, almost as if they are part of the environment itself.
