When I started scuba diving my dream was to dive with a shark and more so photograph one. I’d been unlucky until I reached Belize in Central America. I dived in a site called Esmerelda, which sits just outside the Belize Barrier reef. When we arrived by boat the waves were enormous and crashing into the exit door, where my dive master told us to jump as soon as you get to the edge of the boat and descend immediately, so we didn’t get swept away in the intense current. After reaching the ocean floor we scanned the reef until I saw the euphoric hand signal for shark from the dive master, I turned around and there was this black tip reef shark. I frantically changed settings through my dive housing as I looked up towards the sun rays and the shark swam right into my frame, outlining the epic shape of this apex predator. Although I only had a fleeting glance, I was then circled by 4 other reef sharks on the corral reef. None of the photos however came close to this one which was even more special as this was my first ever shark encounter.
